Composer's Treat 2018: Jasna Velickovic

The guest for 2018 Composer’s Treat is the composer and performer Jasna Velickovic. Jasna will stay from 29 of April for one week at Buitenwerkplaats to work on a new piece for velicon and percussion, collaborating with the percussionist Marijn Korff de Gidts.
Her work focuses on sound extension of traditional instruments, as we can hear in Shadow Studies and Ombre, or moi non plus. read more

In Ven Salta seven contemporary female poets from Lebanon, Syria, Spain and Greece gave inspiration to a new series of 11 pieces for female voice and small ensemble. Besides the differences in religion, language and tradition, the Mediterranean area is a very alive and dynamic region with many cultural similarities. These are strongly represented in the works of all these female poets. In Ven Salta we work with these similarities and differences musically by contrasting and blending them into a very colorful canvas of music. read more
Composer's Treat 2017: Anna Veismane

Aspasia Nasopoulou invited the Latvian composer Anna Veismane for a Composer's Treat. She will stay at Buitenwerkplaats from February 19 until February 25. Anna is a prolific and curious composer, who is active in Latvia as well as around Europe. She is involved in educational projects for young people, inspiring and promoting also young composers.
For this retreat Anna Veismane will collaborate with the Dutch harp player and singer Ekatarina Levental, composing a new piece for her! Ther will be a final gathering around this programm Saturday evening 25 February, in Amsterdam, please let us know when you want to join! read more

Organic Cities is a quest to translate urban impressions into a musical composition in natural environment. At Buitenwerkplaats the score is produced and some of the (live) soundscape are developed by playing improvisations on an installation of instruments and recording them. This installation of instruments consists of small percussion instruments like timpani, xylophone, Thai call, cowbell, cajon, basins - stringed instruments such as double bass, electric and acoustic guitars, electric bass, bouzouki - electronic tools such as sampler, synthesizer - vocals.
